ATTRIBUTES
Athletics
I have played many sports in my life, and I 'm most passionate about soccer. I have been the starting varsity goalie for my school team since 9th grade. I have won 3 MVP awards, 4 All-Conference awards, and was team captain. I also play on an elite soccer travel club team. I intend to play club soccer in college. I played basketball (JV captain and MVP) and lacrosse (JV captain) in 9th and 10th grade, but stopped when I injured my knee. I now play doubles tennis to stay in shape. Behind soccer, my favorite activity is Powder puff football. This year I scored the winning touchdown in the championship game. Athletics are one of the many things that help define me and I enjoy both the competition and being a contributing member to my teams.
Academics
I like to think of myself as a bright student who enjoys a rigorous academic course load. Every class at my school is considered a college preparatory course, but in addition to my regular classes I have taken four AP classes and three honors course. I have obtained the status of AP Scholar and have won several awards at our Academic Convocation. I am also a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. I have made the Headmaster's List (combined average of 93 or above) each term since first grade. Additionally, I hold school and athletic leadership positions and volunteer in the community. These awards have helped me become a Coca-Cola Scholar, an award that only 250 students in the United States achieve each year.
Community Service
My favorite hobby may be helping others through community service. In addition to volunteering in the community, I'm captain of our school's Junior Red Cross club and president of our volunteer club. I'm leading an international service project and met with the Kenyan Embassy to locate a Kenyan school to sponsor. I'm planning a fundraiser to obtain uniforms and books. Our project is called Operation Tumaini, which means "hope" in Swahili. I chose an African school because of my trip to Ghana 2 years ago. I traveled with Global Leadership Adventures and volunteered in an orphanage for 3 weeks. The trip changed my outlook on life, and ever since then I have wanted to help children in third world countries. Someday I hope to return to Africa.
