ATTRIBUTES
Faith
In my faith (as a nondenominational Christian), I have become very involved in my church. I have participated in many church related events, including the “Agape Camping Trip” and the services we provide for the community. These beach sweeps and going to a nearby community to cook for them and provide fun activities for the local children. The main purpose for our church doing these acts of community service is because we want to demonstrate the kindness that Jesus gave and it provides the community with a positive view on today’s youth. In addition to participating in these services, I am a student leader at my church. We student leaders feel grateful to be viewed as respectful youth who have shown strong faith to be honored with the responsibility of being leaders to fellow students.
Academics
In my academics, I have tried my hardest to excel and earn a high GPA (weighted it is around a 4.2). In the junior and senior years, I became a part of the International Baccalaureate program. It is similar to the AP program in that its courses are academically challenging and worth college credit. The courses of the IB program allow for a well rounded education, including challenging courses in history, English French, mathematics, psychology, and chemistry. While these past two years have been tough, I am grateful to be challenged and given the opportunity to be prepared for university. In addition, it allowed me to show my best academic performance in high school and earn me a spot in the top 8% of the class.
Community Service
As mentioned, with my church I have done much community service, including beach sweeps and going to a nearby community to cook for them and provide fun activities for the local children. In things like the beach sweeps, we have gone along the beach and collected trash while also giving cold water bottles to beach goers. In school and the IB program, we have to complete CAS (or Community, Service, Action) projects. I have done service with the Beta club, National French Honor Society, the Red Cross, and other organizations. With these groups I have donated blood several times, done a fundraiser for the USO, collected supplies for suffering families in Haiti, raised money for Water Missions International and the Walk for Water, and conducted a bake sale for the “Face du Monde” foundation.
