I am currently enrolled in all AP and honors courses and have consistently maintained an overall average above 99. In school, I serve as vice president of both the math and science honor societies. I have been accepted into competitive programs, such as the Institute of Creative Problem Solving at SUNY College at Old Westbury and the Science Honors Program at Columbia University. This past summer, I was named a national REAP Apprentice and conducted research on computer simulations of proteins. I was selected as a Top 90 regional finalist in the 2012 Google Global Science Fair. I was also awarded Grand Prize for the Brookhaven National Lab Essay Contest. I have been awarded top honors at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair, NY State Science Congress, and Al Kalfus Math Fair.
I have played the violin since I was six. Since then, my passion for music has gained me numerous awards as well as a greater appreciation for the arts around us. Most recently, I was named one of three violinists from New York State to participate in the NAfME All-National Honors Orchestra. This past December, I was selected for the NYSSMA All-State String Orchestra. I am concertmaster of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York have been the concertmaster several times for All-County orchestras. I am also the first violinist in the Emerald String Quartet - the four-time winners of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Young Musicians Program, a tri-state music competition. Throughout the years, I have performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
I view community service not only as a way to help the community, but also as a way to become more involved in society. In the past, I have volunteered in the summer to help at a local music program. In the summer and during school breaks, I often spend time volunteering at St. Francis Hospital, helping run errands, fulfilling patient requests, and discharging patients. I am also an officer for my school's Tri-M Honor Society, where I have helped plan and organize charity events. This year, we participated in walks in support for breast cancer and curing blindness. We also have organized charitable concerts. In addition, I often volunteer to play music at senior citizen homes, hospitals, and community events with my string quartet. I truly enjoy giving back to the community around me.
