Other Achievements
I am an Eagle Scout, and therefore display leadership qualities necessary to excel in life. By completing the Eagle Scout Project, I demonstrate that I can successfully lead and work with others in coordinating and completing a project and also help benefit the community. My Eagle Scout Project was renovating my church's library: painting the walls, organizing the bookshelves, selling the old books in a fundraiser at the church, and purchasing supplies and new furniture with the funds raised.
I have also been a member of a martial arts school for over ten years, earning the rank of second-degree black belt, and also demonstrating leadership by volunteering to help teach classes.
Community Service
As a Boy Scout, I have logged over 200 hours of community service, including: cleaning up the banks of the Connecticut River with my local Audubon Society, helping CT CHIP document fingerprints and videos of children as a resource in case they are lost, working at a soup kitchen over Thanksgiving and Christmas, acting as a plane crash victim to help train airport emergency response teams, assisting other scouts with their Eagle Projects, and more. Outside of Scouting, I regularly attend Youth Group led service activities at my church, such as making soup for the needy, selling beaded jewelry, and asking church members to donate money to buy families in Africa needed livestock.
Arts
I have a passion for writing and storytelling. As a little kid, I would tell my mom stories I had made up on the spot on her way to work. In 8th grade, a short story assignment was the lightbulb over my head, when I realized that i was in love with writing. During my senior year, I took a Creative Writing course the first semester. After the class was over, I still felt the urge to write, so I went to my guidance counselor and requested an independent study. Now I am working on writing a longer piece of fiction with my previous Creative Writing teacher.
I also play first chair French Horn in my school's symphonic band, and am an avid nature photographer.
