Arts
This is my strongest suit! I am a part of all performing arts. In fact, the reason I am applying for this scholarship is because I am one of five students who was accepted into the Music Composition Department at University of South Florida. with my principal instrument being piano. ( HTTP://youtu.be/UxnR7sKnSQc ) Aside from classical composition, I am a solo singer songwriter and perform in coffee shops and live music venues. In theatre, I have done multiple roles including "Ren" in Footloose and "Barfee" in Putnam County Spelling Bee. My most recent is "Tony" (the lead character) in West Side Story. Academics
I am a student at a School for the Arts; however, I utilize all the academic divisions of the School as well. I am a part of the Dual Enrollment program with the State College of Florida and the Honors Program at the high school I attend. In my academic classes, I only take Honors or college level courses. Despite the upper level work required, I maintain a 4.3 weighted GPA (3.8 unweighted), and have become a recipient of the Platinum Honors award (highest level award) by my school. I received a 28 composite score on my ACT with my strength being in English (at a 33). What I strive for is not sheer intelligence, but more so the will to do the work.
Community Service
I know I'll run out of room on this one too! I volunteer in school, church, and community. I participate in Student Ambassadors (deals with school tours, recruitment for school, and organizing dances and other school events) and Student Government (deals with things outside of school like Habitat for Humanity, Adopt a highway, and Coastal Cleanup). I am Varsity member of the Tech Crew. This club is what allows the Theatre productions to happen. We build sets, design light plots, and manage the house (clean the theater). When I am not involved in a show, I am the sound engineer. Sometimes my car and the club sponsor's are the last left at school (we usually leave around 9:00p.m.). I am in vocal ensembles that per from at nursing homes and community meetings. I also do community theatre!
