Arts
I have been drawing and painting ever since I was in the 5th grade. When it was time to choose a high school I worked my whole eighth grade year, developing and revising a portfolio to submit to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In the end, all of my hard work paid off, I had been accepted! Booker T. is a prestigious school in Dallas, Texas that focuses on training it's students in their chosen fields of study, teaching them to reach their upmost potential. While attending Booker T., my talent in the arts has grown significantly, allowing me to receive various awards such as The 30th Congressional District Winner of the 2011 Congressional Art Competition. I was also recently chosen to become a member of the National Art Honor Society at my school.
Community Service
Community Service has always been a particular interest of mine, starting in my sophomore year of high school. Ashton, one of my very close friends, asked me to help her with a project she was doing involving the arts and at-risk youth. She wished to start a class for children that would teach them how to reach their fullest potential through various forms of art. In order to achieve this, she asked me to help start the class. Together, we found a house which caters to at-risk children through daycare, a perfect place to hold the class. We created lesson plans that focused on our specialities, theater and visual art. We started holding classes in April of 2011, teaching the children how to express themselves though art. Classes have been held every Wednesday since, and are a success!
Academics
I am not the smartest person on the planet; however, through hard work and dedication, I have made it onto the National Honor Society at my high school. I have maintained an A average throughout my high school career and plan on maintaining it until I graduate. I am enrolled in all honor classes, as well as three AP classes. I challenge myself everyday to do the best I can do in each of my classes, and am proud to say that all of the challenges have really paid off.
