ATTRIBUTES
Arts
Every day of my life, I strive to create art around me. My favorite media are collage, photography, and music, and I try my best to incorporate them heavily into my life. My entire room is a collage; I cover the walls in posters and magazine clippings, and I have a mannequin that I've decoupaged with more magazine clippings that I like. I carry a camera wherever I go, and take photos of any interesting, lovely, or profound subjects that I come across from day to day. And every evening, when I come home, I take out my guitar and a notebook and write music, singing it for my family and friends. I love to surround myself in all things creative; it makes me feel peaceful, yet alive.
Athletics
Though art is a huge component of my life, it is preceded on my list of priorities by volleyball. I've been playing since I was thirteen years old, and in those four year, I went from playing on the weakest to the strongest teams possible. I love my sport; the exercise and my team are two of my most important safety nets. Without them, I'm prone to depression and apathy. The exercise keeps me healthy and happy, while my team shows me how to work with other people and become a strong leader. Together, we are part of one of the strongest club teams in the Los Angeles area: Sports Shack. Last year, we went to the Junior Olympics in Miami and got third place in our age group for Southern California. This year, we hope to do the same!
Community Service
As the daughter of a school psychologist and affordable housing director, I've been exposed to philanthropy all my life. Specifically, I love to work with mentally and physically disabled children the most. I've helped to instruct them socially and academically since I started junior high, and I love it. I have never met anyone who was as truly happy as some of the kids I've worked with, and it warms my heart to know that I can assist them in showing the world that they are not defined by their illnesses. Other than that, I have painted many homes through community outreach programs, and frequently assisted at a youth volleyball camp through Campbell Hall School. I love to help people achieve better lives and better futures.
