Community Service
I volunteered at Camp Sunshine in Maine as a camp counselor. I took a week off from work in the summer to spend it at this wonderful camp. It is a place for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. I mainly worked in the Tot Lot and the Nursery with the babies and toddlers. Annually, for about 6 years now, I have participated in the Relay for Life. This is a walk to raise money for cancer. I walk with the group from my church, St. Mary's. I have also tutored children at an elementary school down the street from my high school. I assisted the second grade teacher and her class. Specifically, I helped a little girl who had just moved here from Africa and was having some trouble with her English.
Academics
I have always worked hard in school. While sometimes the work load may seem overbearing, I truly enjoy learning. My favorite classes are English, History, Government, and Spanish. I have taken four different AP courses beginning in my Sophomore year. On my AP US History test, I scored a 4. On my AP English Language test, I also scored a 4. I have yet to take my other two exams for AP US Government and AP English Literature. All of the other classes that I have taken were honors courses. I have also been a member of the National Honor Society for three years. I was elected the Secretary at the end of my Junior year. My GPA is 3.74 and I scored a 2020 on the SAT.
Work
My first job was at a store in the mall called Halloween Scream. I worked both behind the register as a cashier and around the store assisting the customers. As this is a seasonal business, I only worked there for 2 months of my Sophomore year and 2 months of my Senior year. I also worked at Butler Dearden Paper Service as a Receptionist for the summer after my Sophomore year. I answered phones, filed orders, did the mailing, and worked on the computer. The summer after my Junior year, I worked as a camp counselor at Bancroft Camp. I will also work there during the summer after my Senior year. Finally, I worked at a Patriots game for a vendor this year. My job was to sell hats and programs. Unfortunately, I was busy on all other game days.
