Academics
I am currently a student of the Missouri Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Computing, on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University. I take Northwest classes and am receiving college and high school credit for the classes I take. The Missouri Academy places high school juniors and seniors in the college environment to excel them academically. I currently am a high school senior and college sophomore, and have a GPA of 3.76 after 3 semesters at the Missouri Academy. I have taken a total of 56 credit hours so far at Northwest, and I have never received a grade lower than a "B". I have also excelled in classes of great difficulty, such as Calculus 1,Calculus 2, Genetics, Physics 1,Physics 2, and Programming 1.
Technology
The Missouri Academy curriculum is based around science, mathematics, and computing. We are required to take a minimum of 3 semester of math, 2 semesters of biology, 2 semesters of chemistry, 2 semesters of physics, and 2 semesters of computer programming. Being a science major, I have loved the experience that the Academy has given me through its curriculum. I am currently also participating in a research opportunity with my Genetics Professor. We are currently studying the affects of Gibberellin hormones on mutated dwarf corn plants, and measuring the phenotypic characteristics the plants portray. I have done on-line research to prepare for this opportunity, and have take a 3 credit hour Genetics class.
Green
I am currently involved in the Northwest Missouri State University Residence Hall Association. This association is focused on the life of the students, and the residence halls and campus they live on. I am in the GREEN (Getting Residents Engaged in the Environment at Northwest) committee in RHA. The GREEN committee has done quite a bit of work since its creation in Fall of 2009. Already we have helped to restore the glass crusher back to Northwest, so that we may recycle glass again. We are also making signs to place around campus informing students of how to go green, and be eco-friendly. Northwest is also known for its involvement in going Green. There are recycle bins in every building and the recycled material is used by the campus.
