Community Service
As a member of the National Charity League Bluebonnet Chapter, I have put in over one hundred hours of community service since my freshmen year. The different events I have helped with are the Salvation Army Angel Tree, MD Anderson babysitting, Earth Day festivals, Bridgewood Farms Mentally Handicapped Adults activites, various senior living home events, and garage sales to raise money for different charities. My service with National Charity League has taught me that I am very blessed to have even the basic necessities of life. I truly enjoy helping around the community and I treasure helping those who are less fortunate. My heart goes out to them because it is unfair that others have to suffer when I am blessed beyond reason.
Faith
My life is based around my Faith in Jesus Christ. I am affiliated with non-denominational church and I am active in the youth group. My church is very mission based and I have had a few opportunities to go on mission trips. I went to New Orleans to help demolish houses after Hurricane Katrina. I also have been to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic twice with my church. On those trips I assisted with construction projects and Vacation Bible School for the children in the local villages. Some of my most fond memories have come from these trips. I think it is very important for young people like myself to be able to experience life in a third world country. I had an eye opening experience and it truly made me feel blessed.
Other Achievements
Sophomore year, I joined the color guard and winter guard at my school. This activity requires a lot of coordination. It mostly consists of dance and spinning flags, rifles, and sabers. The program is very well known throughout the nation. Our color guard and band program has attended many national competitions. During my membership we have placed 4th in the nation in 2007 and 7th in the nation in 2009. I had the opportunity to tryout for a captain position for my senior year. After a lengthy process including two essays, an interview, and a one minute solo that I choreographed myself, I was selected as one of the three captains of the team. There are 36 members and we work very hard to achieve our goals and to perform our hearts out.
