Work
I have been selected to participate in the Cleveland Clinic Science Internship and Fellow Programs. I currently am working 15 hours a week in the field of Biomedical Engineering at the Lerner Research Facility. Most cancer cells when grown in a petri dish will grow in a single layer. This lab has devised a method to grow the cells like a tumor, with the cells multiplying upon themselves. It is my job then to see which drugs will destroy the "tumor" and at what concentration.
Academics
I currently have a GPA of 4.41, taking AP, PSEO, and Honors classes. I have the distinction of being a College Board AP Student with Honor. I am also a member of the National Honor Society at my school. This past fall I received the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Academic Excellence Award.
Community Service
I am an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where I help out with the Mass. I also assist with the set-up of various church functions. I am a board member of the Avon Lake City Schools Foundation. This organization gives out grants and mini-grants to teachers to enrich their curriculum. I have also become a volunteer for the Cleveland Clinic. I have assisted with their Children's Party, Education Day, Safety Day and the Office of Civic Education's office work. At school, I am a member of Key Club and Varsity Club, where I assist with pancake breakfasts and other fund-raising events. I also volunteer with the Avon Lake Soccer Organization, helping to set-up/take-down fields and teach younger players.
