ATTRIBUTES
Technology
I am currently enrolled in the Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science Magnet Program at Montgomery Blair High School. I am the President and Founder of the Science National Honors Society at my school and I actively encourage and participate in research.
As a junior, I received an Honorable Mention from the ExploraVision science competition for a team research project that demonstrated the innovative techniques of using transposon-based elements to combat HIV/AIDS.
This summer, I worked at Georgetown University conducting research on novel treatments for prostate cancer cells. My project was accepted for publication in a national high school journal and is now currently pending for review in the Intel Science Talent Search.
Arts
I've been playing piano for 12 years now. As an accomplished pianist, I've received scholarships and awards from international, regional, and state level competitions. In my freshman year, I won a scholarship and 1st place in a state-level high school competition competing against seniors.
As a violinist of 10 years, I've been a member of all-county and all-state orchestras since the 9th grade. In my junior year, I was the concertmaster of the Montgomery County Seniors Honors Orchestra under the direction of Piotr Gajewski, the conductor of the National Philharmonic. This year, I am in the 1st violin section of MCYO, an interstate orchestra that performs seasonally at the Strathmore Music Center.
As hobbies, I also enjoy playing blues improvisation and composing and arranging songs.
Faith
As the administration officer of the Teens Group at my church, my main responsibility is to communicate between the teens group, the other officers, and the director and the counselors. I also help plan and organize events like service projects, praise rallies, and prayer meetings.
I've been on the worship team for the Teens Group since 10th grade, and I feel extremely blessed to be in a position that allows me to combine my passion for music with my faith.
I am also one of the A/V officers for the Teens Group, and I help run the soundboard and visual effects for any Teens Group event.
Despite these positions, I feel extremely fortunate just to be in the midst of this extraordinary group of people that I have grown to trust and rely on as a family.
