ATTRIBUTES
Athletics
I made the varsity football team as a freshman. I have been a starter and an all-district selection since I was a sophomore, and I was the defensive captain last year. Two of my teams have made it to the state semi-final playoffs. This year has been the most challenging because I sustained a season-ending injury to my knee in a scrimmage. I have been a field captain and I help coach and encourage from the sidelines. It has been difficult, but I feel that I accepted the injury with dignity. I have also run track every year mainly to increase my speed for football, but I have contributed to relay teams each year and have run at the regional meet twice. I throw the discus and missed qualifying for regional last year due to a scratch but hope to make it this year.
Community Service
I have been involved and interested in helping marginalized people since I was ten years old. I have been to Kenya five times and have done many services things while there including supervising a project to refurbish a school, work with Children's World Hunger fund to feed the poor in the drought-stricken areas of Kenya, prepare special days for orphans, and teach a pastor's class. I have also helped people in my community. I have helped re-roof a home that was in danger of being condemned. I have help with a free summer lunch program for two summers. I travelled to Houston, Texas, to work with intercity kids for a week. I have worked with REACH to help inter-city kids by teaching a bible study. I am also committed to working a camp this coming summer for underprivileged kids.
Work
I started my own business, "The Rig" the day I turned sixteen. The Rig is a mobile car wash unit which I use to detail automobiles and boats and also use to help others such as cleaning our church's mud volleyball area and cleaning our school's athletic buses. I paid for the business in full in less than two months. I can make more money in one day sometimes than most teenagers make in a week. I am responsible for the entire business including the finances, the inventory, the license, and recruiting and maintaining the customers. I have also supervised a major fence building project on a ranch owned in part by my Dad. I have earned a second fence building job which I will complete when my knee is well. I have also worked odd jobs and on construction sites since I was twelve.
