I have spent a lot of effort cultivating the ability to see what needs to be done, what the deadline is, and how it can be accomplished—this while friends and more delectable pastimes begged for my attention. In the midst of half-hearted attempts and slumping endeavors, I’ve fought to correlate my work ethic with my goal of graduating valedictorian and dream of a Master’s in creative writing. Throughout high school I've taken advanced math and English courses finishing in the top 1% of these and all my other classes. Since middle school I've participated in district and state math competitions. I'm a regular A Honor Roll recipient and am in line to graduate valedictorian. As National Honor Vice-President I assisted Student Council last year in raising more than $11,000 for Make A Wish.
Faith
Having a close relationship with the Lord has always been a high priority. As part of this I completed a program in my church called Personal Progress. I spent 247 hours setting and accomplishing goals in my pursuit to know Christ and earned my Young Womanhood Recognition. Many of these hours were spent serving others including free babysitting for church activities. Every high school year I've also participated in a church-sponsored class called Seminary where we study a different book of scripture every year. Currently I am on our city's Seminary Council, entailing I encourage and assist other members to learn from the scriptures and aid them in memorizing 25 scriptures each year. Finally, I was recently released as a Young Women officer, a position I have held since I was twelve.
Other Achievements
As a sophomore I organized a community blood drive. After more than 15 hours of calling donors, making posters and cookies, and assisting the United Blood Service, 29 pints of blood were donated which I discovered could save up to 87 lives!!
For the past year I've served as my high school's Future Business Leaders of America chapter treasurer. I also competed in four events at the state leadership conference, placing top ten in Job Interview and 1st in the team event--Entrepreneurship. This meant we were able to attend the national conference in Orlando, Florida this summer. From a 100 question test my team placed in the top ten. The next day we presented a solution to a business problem to a panel of judges. When the results were announced we had placed 6 out of more than a 100 teams!
