ATTRIBUTES
Academics
I graduated from the 6th grade with one of the highest scores on the Grade Six Achievement Test in the island of Jamaica (Seaforth Primary School, St. Thomas). I have been an honor roll student every year since the 7th grade. I have never had summer school. However, in the first term of 7th grade, I failed my first and only class in music (I placed 43rd in a class of 45). In the second term I placed 1st with 98%. My GPA is a 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. My average in the past 2 years since I came to America has been from an 85 - 95%, rising each term. At my college classes, I maintain a 4.0 GPA and have recently been nominated to take English 3 (at college level). If my school allows me to take it, I will be tutoring my peers as well as other students in Brooklyn College's Student Help Center.
Arts
I write poetry, take photographs, videos, draw, and make collages. Currently, I'm working on an art show which should be ready for viewing by the end of my next school year. My poetry has been published twice. I've done spoken word at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. In an after school club, I've helped with playwriting and the making of a film which were presented at the Tribeca Film Festival and in front of other schools which were a part of the club. I designed and made a dress which was modeled in a fashion show presented for different high schools in Brooklyn. I also cook a variety of food (mostly Caribbean) and bake. Sewing (mostly embroidery) is also one of my favorite things to do.
Community Service
I tutor high schoolers of my grade (11)and lower in my spare time, both after school and in between classes. I have participated in a mulching festival at a local church on Flatbush Avenue and Church where we helped them clean up the leaves and garbage there. On August 7th, i participated in Heart of Brooklyn's Free Summer Sunday, where I helped with their minigolf attraction, handing out pamphlets and other giveaways, creating awareness about the day and getting people to come in and celebrate the culture of Brooklyn (I was at Grand Army Plaza which was practically the center of it all and so I helped directing people to the other places). Last December, I also helped with a Christmas Dinner taking place at Brooklyn College for BCCP, helping with the food and decor.
