Academics
I take school very seriously, and I understand that a rigorous schedule is essential to a quality educational experience. In my four years of high school, I’ve taken 7 AP classes, including Calculus BC and Chemistry, and a number of honors courses. I have maintained an unweighted 3.97 GPA. During my junior year, I took the PSAT, and my score qualified me to be a National Merit Semi-Finalist. I was then selected as a National Merit Finalist. On the ACT, I received a score of 35, with a 36 in both the mathematics and science sections. In my school, I am an active member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. I’m also extremely involved in a video editing/visual effects class that has sparked an interest in me and guided me towards a Computer Science major in college.
Community Service
I joined the Boy Scouts of America when I was 8 years old, and after watching boys before me, I was excited when it was finally time for me to complete my Eagle Scout Project. For my project, I helped to renovate a local, historic landmark, the Missouri Theatre. I organized over 150 volunteers and the tools necessary to remove 1200 seats and carpet from the theatre. I completed the work of the project in less than 5 days. With a combined total of around 450 volunteer hours, one source estimated that I saved the theatre $10,000. Outside of Scouting, I volunteer weekly at a local hospital. Also, through my church youth group, I have helped to clean parks, make quilts for needy families, and work at the Central Missouri Food Bank. I’m involved in a school service organization as well.
Arts
Music is such an important part of my life. I started playing the trumpet when I was in sixth grade. I’m now in my seventh year performing in school concert bands, and for a number of years, I have been a member of my school marching band, jazz ensemble, and jazz combo. During my junior year, I was honored to perform with my school wind ensemble at a prestigious state convention. I have also been selected as a member of my District Concert Band and District Jazz Band.
Aside from playing the trumpet, I have recently developed an interest in making hip-hop beats. Using a music editing program and a keyboard, I have crafted some original work. I’m no professional, but I love the creativity involved in making beats, and I look forward to developing my talents in the future.
