ATTRIBUTES
Community Service
In 2003, while in the 5th grade, I created a non-profit organization called Helping Hands of Palm Coast, Inc. For the past 7 years, Helping Hands has helped over 100 families have food in my county. I am in charge of planning food drives and informing the public. Currently we are working with the Family Life Center in Bunnell, FL which houses women and children who have suffered from abuse by donating clothing to them. I am a youth minister for my church, Santa Maria del Mar, and I tutor students- including those with learning disabilities. I am a member of the Flagler County Volunteer Services & an official Flagler County Schools volunteer.
Academics
Since the beginning of 9th grade, I have maintained my position as first in my class of currently 344 students with a 5.0 weighted GPA and 4.0 un-weighted GPA. My composite SAT score is 1320, 31 on ACT. I have completed 5 AP courses, and received a grade of 4 on all of them. Recently, I received the "AP Scholar with Distinction" award from the College Board. In addition, I am earning dual enrollment credits at Daytona State College and will graduate with my Associate of Arts degree at the same time of my high school graduation. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA in my college courses as well. I have been a part of the National Society of High School Scholars for 3 years, National Honor Society for 2 years and Mu Alpha Theta this year.
Other Achievements
Last March (2009), I won the title of Ms. Matanzas 2010-2011. As Ms. Matanzas, I have to complete service projects during my senior year and serve as representative for my high school. Furthermore, this year I was chosen to be the senior class member of the Flagler County School Board. I attend monthly meetings and bring up issues that students would like to resolve. For all of 11th grade, I was secretary of the Student Advisory Council- the first student in Matanzas H.S. to hold a board position for the SAC. I am board president of a new Hispanic teen group I created in my city, journalist for a local teen magazine for college bound students, and I intern at the Consulate of Portugal in Orlando, FL where I work on official documents.
