Academics
I am a student that takes a great amount of pride in my academics. I have been on the honor roll throughout my entire junior high school, and high school career. I have a 3.786 grade point average out of a possible 4.000, and a 5.536 out of a possible 6.000. I am currently ranked 32 out of 732 students in my class. I scored a 160 on my PSAT my sophomore year, and plan on taking it again this year. I have a very rigorous class schedule, including all honors and advanced placement level classes that I excel in. I am a part of various clubs and lists that recognize academics at my school, such as the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (math honors society), and my high school's distinguished scholars list.
Community Service
At my high school, I am involved in various clubs that deal with community service. One of these clubs is the Friends of Rachel Club, which lends a helping hand to those in the community and school. The club often participates in food drives or clothes drives to benefit the needy. We also run an event called "You're a Star," which is a day at the movie theaters for less fortunate children in the surrounding area. We treat them as the "stars" for the day, and focus all the attention on them to make them feel special. Outside of school, I devote time to my community by helping my neighbors. Throughout the year, I rake leaves and shovel snow for an elderly neighbor. I also help out with Vacation Bible School, a church program for young kids.
Other Achievements
I am very involved in my school and community, beyond service and academics. I am a member of my school's student ambassador club, which helps transfer students adjust to their new school. I am also a member of my high school's DECA club, or Distributive Economic Clubs of America. This past year, I was the Illinois State champion for Virtual Business Challenge: Retail Round 2. I also devote time to the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Friends of Rachel. I am the former captain of my volleyball team. I attend a high school that expresses diversity and new ideas, both of which are traits that I value very much. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family.
