ATTRIBUTES
Community Service
In 8th grade, I joined National Junior Honor Society and that was when I began my community service. I enjoyed helping people. Nothing felt better than seeing a child's eyes light up from actually receiving a Christmas present, or seeing the relief of having food for a Thanksgiving Dinner. In 9th grade, I joined Key Club. Through it, I volunteered more and more, whether taking care of animals at the shelter or sorting book at the public library. The next year, I became Secretary and joined National Honor Society. My first project in NHS was a rummage sale to raise money for my school's teacher who recently discovered a tumor in his brain. Next year, I will be Co-president of Key Club and I plan to run for President or Secretary in NHS.
Academics
Since Kindergarten I have only received the best grades. The few B's in my are not up to my standard. I have taken higher level classes since 8th grade. Last year as a sophomore, I took AP World History and had all honors classes. Junior year consists of 3 AP classes and more honor classes as well. I plan to take at least 7 or 8 AP classes by the end of senior year. I have done Battle of the Books for many years and during the last two years I have joined Science Olympiad and made it to nationals. I am taking SAT prep so I can get at least a minimum of 750 on my SAT's and get into a good college. I am in the 10% of my class and I have a 3.99 average. Academics have been the center of my life since I started school, and I take pride in it.
Arts
I started the arts with music. I have played the piano since I was six years old. Over the years, I have played piano for my church and Sunday School, I have done many talent contests, competitions and recitals. I have also played the cello in the last six years. I was first chair in my school orchestra and I am second chair in my community orchestra. I have enjoyed drawing since middle school, and arts and crafts are always my favorite pastimes. In 5th grade, I joined the Create a Community Contest and won 1st place for my essay and depiction of my city. It would not have been possible to win without my love of the arts. As I have grown older, time for arts have gradually decreased, yet it is still something I long to do constantly.
