ATTRIBUTES
Arts
I am an avid musician, writer, and artist. As a drum major, principle saxophonist, and upper-woodwinds sectional leader, I made 1st chair at the University of Arkansas' Music Camp, 2nd in the All-State Band, and three regional honor bands. I have been giving private lessons from home in saxophone and guitar playing for two years. I love teaching students basic composition skills to make them feel self-proficient. I gained acceptance to the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, where I studied creative writing under California Poet Laureate Al Young. I am currently sketching illustrations for a book by a local author. I plan to audition for Oklahoma State University’s Symphonic Band as a high school senior to experience collegiate level music!
Community Service
I volunteer in a small business called HeBrews, which integrates a coffee shop into a church. The focus is on filling a niche within the town and providing an uplifting place for faith-seekers. I got to be part of a recent mission trip; we shopped for and donated school supplies & clothes to underprivileged children living in the local shelter for victims of domestic violence. I am a TOMS Shoes Campus Representative, promoting the cause behind the trend: to save the feet of kids around the world! I am currently founding The Moon Club, a non-profit school program that will focus on individual passions by letting each member delve into a chosen cause, whether by donation, work service, or mentoring; the motto is "Seek impact before credit."
Academics
I am ranked #1 in my class, am a member of National Honor Society, was nominated for the National Academic Achievement Association for Science, Math, and Arts, and scored a 32 on my ACT. I gained acceptance to Oklahoma State University's Summer Aerospace Academy. I am currently studying in preparation for 3 SAT Subject tests and a final go at the ACT. I am enrolled in Advanced Placement courses as well as concurrent enrollment college courses. I have helped classmates in Spanish, Chemistry, and English courses. For me, learning is a craving. I just can't get enough of the world! I love staying up-to-date on research projects of favorite universities. I plan to apply Early Decision to Northwestern University.
