ATTRIBUTES
Arts
I have the blood of an artist running through my veins. Whether I'm drawing, engraving, film-making, or just playing piano, I have such a powerful sense of knowing "This is what I want to do with my life." I have been drawing since I was 2 years old. My drawings and engravings have been entered in various competitions where they received high honors. In my elementary years, I was honored Top Artist of my class every year. In 2008, I entered an engraved image in the Wayne County Fair. It was awarded First Place and transferred to the Utah State Fair where it again received First Place ribbon. In January of this year, I created a book trailer (A Distant Thunder by Anita Stansfield) that was voted Best Film. I am who I am today because of art
Community Service
It all started when my best friend was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease (A form of cancer) February of 2008. This unlocked an inner passion to help serve her, as well as others. I set up the Hannah Cancer Foundation and kicked off a 12 month fundraiser frenzy. I began with donation cans, then moved to making and selling crafts. I sold homemade suckers and Boo-Boo Bunnies. Quilt raffles, a beef raffle, and mutton raffles were also organized by me. I concluded this intense, year-long project with a "Charity Easter Carnival." Later in 2009, I joined "Anthem" a service-centered choir. We performed free at rehab centers, hospitals and assisted living centers in our region and on tour. Also on tour, we made kits for hospitalized children.
Other Achievements
I represent my high school as Sterling Scholar in Family And Consumer Sciences for the 2010-2011 school years. A project I recently completed in January of 2010, was in the Fashion Construction category of Family, Consumer, Leaders of America. (FCCLA) The project entailed design and construction of a marketable article of clothing. I chose to construct a faux-fur jacket. My project was presented at the Annual FCCLA Regional Competition, where I won Silver Medal. I qualified for the Annual Utah State FCCLA Competition. My presentation won Silver Medal in this competition as well. I was the highest scoring individual from my region. This and other projects have helped me reach my goal of becoming Sterling Scholar for my school.
