Community Service
I’ve volunteered nearly 600 hours in my community. My most satisfying service project benefited the Bureau of Land Management and required my leadership of 25 people, 450 hours of labor, along with the skill to repair a water collection device which stabilized a desert ecosystem suffering a drought. Energized, I sought more projects, some of which follow. I served as a counselor for Reno’s Recreation Department and taught underprivileged children to use athletics as an alternative to self-depreciating behaviors. For my high school's National Honor Society, I organized four fund-raisers totaling $2500 which benefited local charities. I served in three Eagle Scout projects which cumulatively built 500 feet of the Tahoe Rim Trail. I volunteered as a Scout Camp Counselor for three years.
Athletics
In soccer, wrestling, and track I earned 9 varsity letters. I was the team captain for soccer and track for 3 years. As varsity soccer captain sophomore year, I tutored ineligible players and held each player accountable to the team by making everyone run 10 laps for each ineligible player. Breaking a 4 year no-win streak, we went to playoffs from then on and I was recognized as the team’s inspiration and the region’s Defender of The Year. In track I was the varsity Freshman of The Year. The next season as captain, I was the Field Athlete of the Year and from then on the Athlete of the Year while breaking the school’s shot-put record, placing top 3 in every meet, and competing at the state level. I also received a black belt from the ITF and was a High School Heisman National Finalist.
Academics
With 8 AP and 10 Honors Classes, a 2200 SAT score, and a 4.0 GPA, I am 1st in my graduating class of 321. I’ll earn an Honors Diploma and have received 7 academic recognition certificates and an academic letter. I have 9 All-State Academic Team recognitions. I was the single recipient of the All-School-Award in Mathematics, Social Studies, English, Science and Physical Education, the first ever to be recognized by every department. UNR named me a Silver Scholar. I was also given the National AP Scholar with Honors Certificate. Then, because of my external studies in economics and finance, I was the 7th Place Winner at the National FBLA Conference. I’m also completing my fourth year in an early morning religion course offered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
