Academics
My academics are very important to me, and I always strive to do my absolute best in school. My GPA has never fallen beneath 4.0, and I am a dedicated and enthusiastic student in all subjects. While taking classes at Coastal Christian School, I was awarded the Principal's Honor Roll both semesters, and also received a Scholastic Achievement Award from the California State Senate. English is my strength, and I scored an impressive 760 on the Critical Reading section of the SAT. I was recently accepted into Westmont College of Santa Barbara with a $13,000/year academic scholarship, and I am extremely excited for this chance to continue to learn and excel in my studies.
Arts
The arts - namely, music and writing - are not only incredibly important to me, but I find them very enjoyable. Though I played piano for several years, my main instrument is now the cello. In addition to studying privately with an accomplished California cellist, I have participated in the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony for four years. This amazing experience has blessed me with many music retreats, paid accompanist opportunities, and prestigious recitals, and I look forward to continuing my musical studies in college. I am also an avid creative writer; I have participated in a monthly Writer’s Critique Group for nearly five years, and one of my poems was selected from more than 400 entries and published by the SLO Tribune. I cannot wait to pursue a career as an author.
Other Achievements
An animal-lover all my life, I was ecstatic to meet my new best friend in the spring of 2009 - a purebred, registered, champion-bred Saluki puppy . I am an AKC-registered Junior Handler. amd I have entered Strider in many prestigious AKC dog shows. Under my expert handling he has attained 12 of 15 championship points, over stiff competition and some of the top Salukis in the world. I am extremely dedicated to this hobby; we have also earned the title of Canine Good Citizen, are pursuing titles in Obedience and Rally, and have participated in several competitive field coursing events. My skill is such that I am often asked to show dogs for others. I am also a member of the 4-H Dog Project, through which I have won top Obedience and Showmanship awards at the California Mid-State Fair.
