ATTRIBUTES
Community Service
I have spread awareness and help stop the cycle of domestic violence. I currently volunteer at the Center for Women and Families every Monday and Wednesday. At the center, I babysit the children of women who have been victims of domestic violence. Many of these children have been subjected to or have experienced violence. By helping care for these children, I can brighten their day and be someone the kids can confide in. I had a Christmas party for the children at the Center for Women and Families. To afford presents for the children, I ended up raising $500 by having a yard sell, selling t-shirts and bracelets, and by having a Chick-fil-A cow calender fundraiser. The rest of the money was donated to the Mary Byron Project. I will continue to assist others throughout my college experience.
Academics
Academics are a substantial part of my life. I have been enrolled in advanced English, math, social studies, and science courses since ninth grade. I took AP Chemistry in 11th grade, and I am currently taking AP Psychology. My grade point average is 3.84, I am ranked 31 out of 170 people in my class, and I have received first or second honors every year of high school . I participate in National Honor Society where I am required to keep my grades high and complete 25 hours of community service. I also am a part of KYA, an organization where students debate self-authorized bills. In eleventh grade, I was given an outstanding bill author award for my bill that would require legislative fiduciary responsibility and accountability. Experience with academics is crucial to success.
Faith
I am a Christian that is devoted to the Catholic faith. I have attended Catholic schools since I was 4, and I enjoy the familiar and loving atmosphere. I go to mass every Sunday and donate money towards organizations such as Dare to Care Food Bank. One way I follow in Christ's mission is by being a steward and serving others. I have served others by helping paint a house for Habitat for Humanity in a low income area of Kentucky. I also regularly volunteer at Meals on Wheels where I deliver food to the elderly. To help spread the message of Christ, I read to children different passages in the Old and New Testaments at Bible School. I constantly try to remind the children to be thankful for all the blessings God has given them. It is important for all people to be grateful and accepting.
