Academics
In terms of academics, I always feel a need to achieve more than necessary. That would explain my large amount of advanced and AP classes, like the four AP classes, Chemistry, Biology, English IV, and Calculus, that I am taking this year as well as dual credit government/economics. I have yet to receive a grade lower than an A and the vast majority are high As. I take pride in completing honest and high quality work. Because of my academic excellence in class, I often find myself being asked for help by peers for various things, including advice about life and help in understanding a concept. I enjoy helping and take the time to patiently answer questions and teach as needed, even on difficult concepts. My teachers also often look to me to answer particularly difficult questions.
Community Service
My membership of NHS accounts for most of my community service involvement, both through the many mandatory events and the additional ones I choose to attend. I have been a part of Special Olympics, through NHS, by being president of the coordinating team last year. After that, I served at the basketball tournament by helping to guide competitors, distribute water, and cheer on players. Later, I helped at the Ragin’ Cajun fundraiser for the events by serving food, cleaning tables, and helping clean up afterwards. Lastly, I did similar service at the track meet by guiding competitors, providing water, cleaning up, and storing equipment. Outside of NHS, I helped at church for three years with the Angel Food Ministry food distribution and serving on the worship committee.
Arts
The majority of my art consists of involvement with band, but I am also an adept artist with paper and pencil. I draw in my spare time or for competitions, and last year (spring 2012), I drew the Colchian dragon and the Golden Fleece and won 1st at JCL region and 7th at state. Back to band, I participated in band for seven years as a tuba player. In he past four years, I have been in marching band where the band won sweepstakes/1st division awards at region, moved on to area the two possible years to do so, and placed in the top three to advance to state competition. This year (2012-2013), I was given the position of drill instructor and act as a teacher and leader to my section throughout the year. I also won 1st division solos and ensembles the past two years at region and went to state.
