ATTRIBUTES
Academics
As a member of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, I have no doubt taken rigorous coursework all throughout high school. My dedication to academics is always prioritized over extracurricular activities and fun with friends, which has allowed me to see real benefits of such work ethic. With a 3.89 unweighted GPA and a 5.74 weighted GPA, I have never earned lower than a B on a report card, and I mostly earn A's. For the past three semesters I have achieved High Honor Roll status at school. This past fall I was also named a National Merit Semifinalist due to my outstanding performance on the PSAT with a score of 216. (Finalists announced February 2013.) Just recently, I was notified that my English scores on the SAT/ACT have earned me three semester hours of English at FSU.
Arts
Dance has been a part of my life for 14 years. At one point, my repertoire included jazz, modern, tap, ballet and hip-hop during middle school. However, when I began high school, I was forced to scale back to devote more time to studies. Tap was always the art form in which I performed strongest and displayed most promise for future growth, so I decided to solely continue tap. During the summers, I take from Julia Boynton in Boston and in 2010 I participated in the Beantown Tap Conservatory. During my junior year of high school, I decided to take jazz again for the physical exercise it would provide as well as the joy of dancing. Currently, I study jazz and tap, and substitute teach tap classes on the weekend for children ages 4 to 16. I aspire to continue tap dancing throughout my life.
Community Service
Giving back to the community is an essential part of my life, and over the past four years I have made significant contributions by way of two main organizations: Smiles for Seniors Service Club and Relay For Life of King High School. As a freshman I became involved with Smiles for Seniors, which does activities with the elderly around the community, and was elected President for my sophomore year. For the past three years I have organized numerous activities in conjunction with assisted living homes in the area. This year, we are working with NHS at King to put on a Senior Prom for the elderly. I was also Event Chair of the 2012 Relay at King, which raised more than $120,000 for the American Cancer Society to battle cancer. I devoted more blood, sweat, and tears to Relay than ever before.
