ATTRIBUTES
Academics
Since the ninth grade, I have been on distinguished honor roll. My teachers and peers know me to be a quick-learner and an excellent student. I often offer assistance in areas where others may not excel. My courses are some of the most advanced offered by my high school. I have taken advanced placement statistics, advanced placement English, biology II, chemistry II, honors history, and I even doubled up math classes my sophomore year. Some goals I have achieved are as follows: remain in the top 10% of my class, maintain at least a 3.8 GPA or higher, and keep challenging myself. Furthermore, I take dual enrollment classes in order to get a head start on my college education. These classes have allowed me challenge myself and also to be better prepared for what I am to expect next year.
Community Service
My first year at high school, I joined Leo Club, an all-volunteer organization in the high school. By tenth grade I was the treasurer, and then again in my junior year. This year, I stepped up into the position of president. I organized an ethnic dinner and ran a toy drive for a local charity. I have earned two Gold Awards from this organization that recognize 100+ hours of volunteer work. I have also put in time at Camp Sunshine, a day camp in the summer for mentally ill members of my community, and was a part of a show for our public library that raised money to buy books. Lastly, fueled by my desire to become a nurse, I began volunteering at our local hospital, ACMH, in order to assure that the hospital has enough help to continue providing services.
Arts
Preforming and musical arts have always been a large part of my life. I began singing in 5th grade and joined musicals, festivals, and other performances in high school. In 11th grade I was invited into vocal ensemble, an advanced choir group. I also attended two county chorus festivals that were by audition only. I was then voted to be the vice president of my schools choral program. The director, president, and I work together to raise money for the chorus by selling shirts and putting together fundraisers. I am an active member of the musical program in my community. I was a part of the library’s and school’s productions; not just by acting and singing, but also by making programs and helping build, paint, and develop the set. The arts in my area are one of my favorite things about it.
