Discus Award Winner
11th Grade, OK
I have many academic achievements. I am in the top 10 percent of the Broken Arrow class of 2014. My un-weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale is a 4.0. I have been a member of the Oklahoma Honors Society, National Honors Society as well as the National Society of High School Scholars since 2010. My sophomore year I served as Historian for the National Honors Society. I have received the principal's award both freshmen and sophomore year. I received the March sophomore student of the month award and the October junior student of the month award for having outstanding grades, great behavior as well as being a leader. Lastly I received an award in Spanish 1 and 2 for showing outstanding comprehension and retention abilities.
My sophomore year my teachers selected me to go to the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership conference and represent my intermediate high school. I also completed the Teen Leadership conference at North Eastern State University. I am a member of Student council, Junior Board, and Friends of Rachel. In student council I help keep the school a fun and friendly environment. Junior board is a group of thirty juniors that are responsible for making decisions for our class. As one of the thirty I help plan a budget and fund-raise for different activities up to graduation. I have been a member of Friends of Rachel since it launched in 2011. It is a group designed to spread Rachel’s challenge and make a positive difference. I am the Vice President. I have done over 200 service hours for these clubs.
I am an active member in the youth group at Rhema Bible Church. I have taken a missions trip once a year for the past two years. I have been to Colombia and Joplin. In Colombia we went to different schools and helped the teachers with whatever they needed for an entire week. Our small team of 30 ministered to about 9,500 people. In Joplin we rebuilt a man’s house as well as a historical little league baseball field. They were both destroyed in the tornado of 2011. We worked eight hour days for six days despite the freezing rain. I play piano and am a vocalist in the youth band. We lead worship every Wednesday night. We also play at various camps, retreats, and conferences as well as other special events out of town. I also volunteer in the nursery on Sunday mornings.
