Academics
Doing well in academics has always been one of main priorities since I was in pre-school. In 2nd through 8th grade, I belonged in the Purpose Program (Gifted Program) at my school. I was taught at a higher level than the other students and had to construct and complete various projects and tests. In High School, I have been on the Highest Honor Roll every year, and have earned the Academic Achievement Award each year. In 10th grade I received the “Raider Award” in which teachers select the winner. I am in the top 7% of a class of over 550 students, and have a 4.3 GPA. Being an honor and AP student, this year I am taking two college level courses. In order to reach my goal to become a Registered Dietitian, I have taken every Nutrition, Math, and Science course offered relative to my major.
Community Service
I am very dedicated to community service. In 9th grade, I tutored Middle School students after school. In 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, I was a volunteer for Key Club, and participated in Coat Drives, and raising money for Make-A-Wish. In 9th, 10th, and 11th grade, I was a leader for the Girls Basketball Camps. I have volunteered at my local food bank for the past 3 years, setting up for distribution, filling bags, and collecting donations. I have also been a baker for Meals on Wheels for the past two years. In 10th grade I was a SADD member, encouraging students to stay away from drugs. In 11th grade, I was a speaker for Varsity Club talking about the importance of student athletes. In 12th grade, I helped start the very first Science National Honor Society, and I am the Secretary.
Work
At the end of my junior year basketball season, I decided that I should leave basketball and get a job. Although I loved the sport very much and was a Varsity Starter and Varsity Letter Winner for all 3 years, I needed to start earning money because I am paying for all of my college education. I got my first job at Dairy Queen, where I gained excellent communication skills, and learned about hard work. As the restaurant lost workers, I picked up the slack and was working 37 hour weeks while going to school. I learned about time management, and was able to keep my grades up. I was about to be promoted to Shift Manager, but I found a new job with better opportunities at Giant Eagle. I continue to work at Giant Eagle now as a Cashier, which has improved my people skills tremendously.
