ATTRIBUTES
Academics
Living in a small town has made it difficult to explore my passions academically, but I have been lucky enough to receive funding to attend local university classes as a high school student. This funding was granted to me based on my strong academic record. I continue to thrive in school with a 4.0 GPA in my college classes as well as my high school classes. I have taken the most rigorous schedule possible at my high school and still maintain the valedictorian position in my senior class. I am proud of myself for juggling my school work and extracurricular activities because I have succeeded in both areas of my life. I cannot wait to begin college to show everyone that if I work hard, I can succeed there as well.
Athletics
I love competition and it shows when I play sports. I have played varsity basketball, varsity softball, varsity soccer and varsity cross county. I am a team captain on my basketball team as well as on my cross country team. I have been recognized as a top 10 player in my sports league and have been invited to an all-star tournament. I have often been told that I am a work horse on my team. I may not be the most talented player, but I always try hardest. I can score 20 points and rip down 20 rebounds on any given night of basketball. My basketball and softball teams have made it to the state-wide tournament every year. I try to be an effective leader on and off the sports playing field.
Community Service
My community is very close and enjoys doing many things. During the summers, I enjoy working at a children's summer camp. I have been a counselor and a staff member at this camp for a total of four years. I have accumulated around 300 hours of community service during my high school career. I have worked at blood drives, food drives, childrens' day camps, and religious functions. I have donated blood, played bingo at the local nursing home and planted a community garden for a low-income food cupboard. I have also participated in many community events and service projects. The community service I have participated in has strengthened my decision to become a doctor. I love to help people and I will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
