Community Service
Giving back and more to the point, being involved in something outside of school in the community is a family value.
I serve on the Mayors Youth Council, a two year appointment.
I am involved with Down Syndrome tennis, which takes place for six weeks in the fall and six weeks in the spring. This is free to down syndrome members I started with others at Park Tudor. It's taught by the varsity tennis team. I have spent years going on Sunday afternoons to visit with the players and their parents. As a freshman in High School, I helped set up a program where I send birthday cards to every person in the Down Syndrome Indiana data base. I was highlighted in the Down Syndrome of Indiana “Volunteer Times”. I won the Governors Outstanding Service award for this and other projects .
Arts
Fine arts is another area where I have ability to express myself and excel in a meaningful way. I have always felt creative expression is fun and important. I am currently involved with Photography. At the end of my first semester as a junior, I had an art opening of my work and its represented on a web site I've designed. You can see it here. http://ntannenbaum.wix.com/portfolio.
Music is a passion as well. I began playing the drums 6 years ago. I attended percussion camp at Butler University and was named Drummer of the Week!
It was an amazing experience. We learned the steel drums, kettle drums and I refined by trash can drumming skills. I was a percussionist in my high schools pep band and concert band and was routinely featured at half time on the trash can drums.
Athletics
As a child I was always active and loved sports. It took me three years but I am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. My true passion was revealed when I picked up a lacrosse stick. Since entering my freshman year, I have played on Varsity Lacrosse Team. I am one of the startiers for the team and will have 4 varsity letters. It is my hope to be recruited to play for a high level competetive team. I was awarded the Mental Attitude Award by Mixed Greens.
I enjoy participating in the challenge of learning something new from ice skating to ultimate Frisbee. I am co captain of our Ultimate Frisbee team and manager of our Winter Soccer League.
Included is my lacrosse recruiting site http://lacrosserecruits.com/Nicholas_Tannenbaum
I hope to be recruited and play D1 lacrosse in college.
