Athletics really opened the door to leadership positions for me since I was a small kid. In one of my favorite sports, soccer, ive held many leadership roles on and off the field. As a 3 year started for my varsity team, I led the defense for the previous two years and was a team captain for my senior year. Each game I helped organize formations during the games and off the field I organized many team bonding activities. I was named a member of the All-Division team. In my other varsity sport, track and field, I actually helped to coach many of the runners with form and technical work in hurdling and in high jump. I made it to the state championship meet and placed 5th as a junior. I was named All-Conference and will most likely be a captain for our team in my senior season.
My church and youth group has allowed me to participate in many community service activities. Most recently, I traveled to Haiti to help re build a church in Mellier. While there, I bonded with the less fortunate locals and learned a lot about the importance of service. I lead and organized a soccer ball drive for the children of an orphanage that I knew we would be visiting. We sent over about 30 balls for the kids. I’ve also participated in many local community service activities. I was a youth leader in a ramp-it-up program that built ramps for underprivileged families with handicapped family members.
My leadership in the arts can be mostly attributed to my trumpet playing. Ive been a leader in my high school jazz band for all 4 years of high school and have played in our wind ensemble and symphonic band programs. I played in the American Music Abroad Band, by recommendation, where we traveled to Europe and shared music with many towns and cities. Recommendation for this group only comes with strong leadership characteristics and responsibility. I was also selected for the NYSSMA All State Band in my junior year, an honor that only around 25 students receive in all of New York. I’ve played in numerous All-County selection bands, been a frequent soloist at my church and have been asked to play college graduations.
