ATTRIBUTES
Academics
I am a member of National Honor Society, an officer of Social Studies Honor Society, a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society, and a two time recipient of academic letters. I excel in all 5 of my IB courses while maintaining an A- average. I scored an 1890 on my first SAT attempt and plan to retake the SAT this coming spring. In the classroom, I participate responsibly and eagerly while displaying leadership. During the summer, I tutor younger students in Math, English, and guitar lessons. I aspire to expand my knowledge each day while sharing what I've learned with my peers as well as with my surrounding community.
Arts
I am extremely involved with the performing arts at my school as I am a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, and jazz band. I am the drum major of the marching band, so I act as the student leader and conduct the band from the field in performances. I have also served on the elected Band Council for two years. Outside of my school's music program, I am the third chair french horn of the American Youth Philharmonic. Last summer, I traveled Europe on a music performance tour with Virginia Ambassadors of Music. Also, I play bass guitar in a rock band called The Thirteenth Story and I recently started a New Orleans style brass band with other musicians from my high school. When I'm not performing music, I write as the indie music editor for a student run music blog.
Athletics
While in high school, I have been a member of varsity softball, varsity lacrosse, and varsity track and field. Also, I have played women's travel ice hockey and served as a captain. I love fitness and one of my favorite hobbies is power lifting. Last year, I lifted my way onto the women's top 5 squat list at my school. During all of the seasons in which I have participated in a sport, I have received the Scholar Athlete Award for academic excellence and athletic success. At every practice and game I give relentless effort in order to help myself and my team improve. My goal is for my lacrosse team to win the state championship next season.
