ATTRIBUTES
Athletics
I have been a varsity track and field athlete for 4 years. I am a thrower, and in my time on varsity I have won three regional championships in the discus throw, set 4 meet records at various invitationals, set my school record in the discus throw three times, and competed in the Wisconsin State Track and Field meet my Junior season in the discus. I have attended camps run by nationally acclaimed coaches and athletes such as Luke Sullivan, and Pat Ebel, who guided the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh women’s track & field team to a pair of national titles. My junior season I started it off with a frectured right foot, only able to practice with a boot off for 15 minutes. I still was able to break my school record and make it to the state track meet. I believe that mind can conquer matter.
Community Service
I have been an avid part of my community for all of my high school career. I started community service through my church, where I participated in At-Home Mission weeks. This is a service that is provided to people in need of assistance throughout Sheboygan County through my church. I have participated in that three years in a row. I have worked at Soup kitchens, Rebuild New Orleans Pancake breakfasts, Thanksgiving day turkey dinner, and taught yoga free to the community at the Maywood Walk/ Ride in September 2012. I am also taking a class this year called Mentoring. Every day for my first hour class I go to the Elementary school and mentor two third grade students. This experience has sparked my interest in becoming a Big Sister, or even a motivational speaker.
Other Achievements
In July 2012 I started attending a yoga studio in my hometown. I went to a few classes and fell in love. I was then told about a scholarship given to a high school student interested in becoming a certified instructor. It would take 8 weekends, 200 hours from September-December to get this certification. All I had to do was write an essay. I wrote my essay, and eventually won the scholarship. As of December 9th, 2012 I am a certified yoga instructor. I plan on following this new-found passion throughout my life. I have gained insight that I never could have imagined, while being given tools to help people for the rest of my life.
