Other Achievements
Culinary Arts Achievements:
I won 9th out of 300 students in State at Skills USA a Culinary Arts competition in Tacoma, WA in the year 2012. In order to get to state, I had to place top three out of 20 students. I was the only student from my high school which is Hudson's Bay High School in Vancouver. I also finished a two year culinary program at Fort Vancouver High School. I will be completing a second culinary program at Evergreen School District Skill Center which I will earn an ACF certificate. Some of the skills I have been learning are: front of the house management, baking techniques, different sectors of kitchen work (back of the house, and restaurant management. I plan to major in Culinary Arts in college because this is my passion in life.
Community Service
Community Service Achievements:
I volunteer for our local homeless shelter at the ShareHouse in Vancouver, WA. At the ShareHouse, I prepared meals, filed paperwork, and did general housekeeping duties. I also volunteered for the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge Sanctuary in Ridgefield, WA. I worked with the youth doing arts and crafts concerning the wild birds in the sanctuary. We put together a bird mobile consisting of various birds. At the end, I helped the staff clean up. Most recently, I volunteered for the Columbia Springs Family Fieldtrip day. I helped set-up the cafeteria, answered questions for guests and took up the rear position for the nature hike. It was a great time!
Faith
Faith Achievements:
I attend New Song Community Church regularly and work in the children's and youth ministry. Some of the projects include skits, music, games, role playing, reading and encouraging kids in their faith. I also help my stepfather's music ministry where we travel around the Northwest for music concerts. I help setup the sound equipment, sell CDs and give information to the audience. I was honored to go to Kenya on a 2 week medical mission trip in 2011. This trip was very special to me as this was the first time back to Africa since being adopted at the age of five. I got to minister to the orphans and very poor children in several villages around Nairobi, Kenya. Even though I was only five at the time I still remember what it was like to be hungry and underprivileged.
