Discus Award Winner
12th Grade, OH
I have been enrolled in all Honors and AP classes for the past two years, and have taken every AP course offered at my high school. I have maintained an A in all of my classes, and have kept my GPA above 4.0 for all four years. I am in the top 2% of my class, and am currently 3rd of 255 students. Junior year my schedule wasn’t large enough to encompass all the classes I wanted to take, so, with the help of my professors, I designed 3 courses based off of school classes and then completed them over the summer and during school, in addition to regular classes and extra-curriculars
I am one of the founding members for our school’s Relay for Life team, Talawanda Students for the Cure. We raise money and participate in a walk to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. I’ve been in 4H for nine years and do at least two service projects yearly with my club: landscaping at a church and collecting food/household supplies. I’ve been in Girl Scouts for 12 years, during which I have completed my Bronze and Silver Awards, and am working on my Gold award. The service projects I designed were, consecutively: a book drive through local schools, which I donated to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital; volunteering at a local retirement home and making scrapbooks to help dementia patients; designing a pen-pal program between local elementary schools and a small school in Belize.
Through my four years in high school, I have been nominated by my teachers to go to leadership conferences to represent my school. In 9th grade, I went to a local ‘Teens Leading Teens’ seminar, where I learned team building skills and worked with fellow 9th graders from the Cincinnati area. In 11th grade, I was nominated to go to Buckeye Girls State, a leadership conference put on by the American Legion Auxiliary at the University of Mount Union. There, I participated in a mock state government delegation, and ran/campaigned for a position. I have also held leadership positions within various clubs, including being the President and Vice President of my 4H club, being a member of the Butler County Junior Fair Board, and being the President of my Girl Scout troop for several years.
