ATTRIBUTES
Arts
Band is my second family and I have participated in it for seven years. This year, I had the honor of being selected to be the Drum Major of the band and run the entire band program. It was a huge job, and took more than 700 hours from between July and October. I also have been part of the Greenville County Youth Orchestras for four years, playing percussion for the Philharmonic and Young Artist's Orchestra. I was selected for Region Band, and got to play with some amazing musicians. I also adore art, drawing especially. It is something I've pursued since I was young, from school art classes to taking lessons at a studio. Dancing is also another one of my passions. Helping choreograph the class dance for four years in our school's International Festival is one of my favorite events.
Academics
I have always been devoted to my academics, making the honor roll during all of my educational career. I am also an IB candidate and am going for the IB diploma. Because of this, am taking nine classes in a seven period school day, meaning I have to be at school early for class and then have to take two classes in one period. While this severely limits my time, I was able to become a National Merit Commended Scholar, and achieve a score of 2240 on the SAT and a 770 on the SAT subject test for U.S. History. I have also taken six AP classes and done well. This year, I plan to take six IB exams and AP Chemistry. In chemistry (one of my favorite subjects) I have attended many SCJAS Conferences and submitted a chemistry experiment to the SERMACS conference in North Carolina in 2012.
Technology
I have always been a user and lover of technology, so when the opportunity arose to take AP Computer Sciences, I did. Loving the class, I decided to take the IB SL level class for Computer Sciences as well! The IB class was an independent class, which involved two large projects that took at least 200 hours each to complete. One of my projects involved an interactive interface that I used to test people's visual reaction time, and the project went on to win in the Roper Mountain Science Fair! I won 2nd place in my category (biology) and 4th place overall. In addition, I do a bit of android app programming on the side, which can often be very useful. While it is time consuming, I just think it's such a neat pastime, and it can prove to be really useful!
