Arts
I am very passionate about music. I have been in band and played clarinet since 5th grade. I was section leader in marching band for 2 years and am woodwind captain this year. I was in the top concert band at my high school all four years. I made All-District Band this year. I am a part of our school’s top choir and show choir. I was an officer last year and am soprano section leader this year. At Solo/Ensemble I received the top rating for my vocal solos last year as well as 2 ensembles. I have sang in 3 of my high school’s musicals and am 1st chair clarinet in the Pit Orchestra this year. I am involved in my church’s Adult Choir and have been a featured soloist for the past 4 years. I also sang with the marching band at our football team's halftime shows during 10th and 12th grade.
Academics
I have been on the Principal’s Honor Roll since 6th grade and am currently ranked 6th in my class out of 308 students (Top 2 %.) I have a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.551/4. I have lettered in academics four times and am a member of National Honor Society. In addition to National Honor Society I am a part of four other honor societies (math, science, Spanish, and music.) Within these societies, I am the Secretary of Science Honor Society and was one of the founding officers (Secretary)of Music Honor Society. I scored a 31 on my ACT and have been a year accelerated in math since 7th grade. I am a Kansas Honors Scholar and an AP Scholar. I have taken five AP classes and I am currently taking three. I have also taken 9 honors courses.
Community Service
I have logged nearly 300 hours of community service during high school. In my junior year, I received the Presidential Community Service Award for completing 146 hours of service during the year. For the past two years, I have volunteered on a weekly basis at our neighborhood library. At the library I shelve books, DVDs, and CDs; make interactive displays for the youth service departments; and box donations of books for the book sale. I have also volunteered at Harvester’s (a local food bank), caroled at nursing homes, and led a class of second graders during Vacation Bible School at my church. As a freshman, I created my own service project in which I decorated individual flower pots and planted flowers in them, then delivered them to a local nursing home on May Day.
