Academics
Throughout my high school career I have thrown myself in academics. I am currently enrolled in five AP classes; I earned a score of 5 on six previous AP exams and a score of 4 on one previous AP exam. I devote myself to my courses and am currently the valedictorian of my high school class of over 400. In recognition of my academic achievements I have been named a National Merit Scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. I have been a member of the National Honor Society for two years, and serve as Vice President.
Community Service
I value community service as it benefits others while furthering my personal character. During the 2011-2012 school year, I organized a 5K charitable walk/run to raise money for Friends of CARRA. Friends of CARRA is an organization that funds juvenile rheumatoid arthritis research (JRA), an issue close to my heart as I have had JRA since 2008. My race involved nearly 200 people and raised $1200 for Friends of CARRA.
In addition to holding my charitable 5K, I serve as a volunteer Sunday School worker at my church. I have worked with four and five year olds two hours each week for two years.
Other Achievements
I have been involved with my school's debate team for three years, and am currently the team's co-captain. I compete in the Lincoln-Douglas format, a one-on-one styled debate based on ethics. In 2011 I was the District Champion and Regional Runner-Up, and debated in the Virginia High School League Debate States. In 2012 I was the District and Regional Runner-Up, and again competed at States.
I also compete in the Washington Area Catholic Forensics League; I placed first in this year's Mega-Tournament and am qualified for Washington Area Metrofinals.
