ATTRIBUTES
Arts
I've played violin for 13 years, since the age of 3. I'm concert mistress of my school's orchestra and part of Red Clay School District Orchestra. I was nominated for the 2012 Governor's School of Excellence for violin at University of Delaware. I've participated in Delaware All State Orchestra in middle and high school. I played in the pit orchestra for my school's production of The Sound of Music, for which I was also student music director. I've also performed in professional concerts. I'm a member of Culmination: a violin group in which we memorize and choreograph pieces for our biannual concerts. When asked for by the director, I also play electric bass. My other endeavors include my school's jazz band, in which I play violin and bass, concert choir, and 3 annual theatre productions.
Community Service
I strive to serve my community. I've volunteered at the Cancer Support Community of Delaware, where I helped with their annual fundraiser. I was a part of the Imagination Players, a non-profit theatre group that performs at local children's hospitals, nursing homes, etc. I'm a dance teacher's assistant for the Chinese American Community Center's Folk Dance Troupe. I lead weekly practices and teach dances to the other dancers to prepare for upcoming performances. We perform at local events, Chinese New Year celebrations and multicultural events, as well as at larger venues, such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and the 2012 London New Year Parade. We were recently invited to return to the 2014 London New Year Parade and perform in the 2013 Presidential Inauguration Parade.
Academics
I'm a junior at The Tatnall School, a private school in Wilmington, Delaware where I take AP and honors courses. Each year, I've been on either Honor Roll or High Honor Roll. I maintain a strong GPA along with balancing my artistic and athletic pursuits. I was a member of the cheerleading squad for the past 3 years and was captain my junior year. The past two years, I choreographed and produced the music for the half-time dance for the Homecoming football game. At Tatnall, I'm a peer tutor for underclassmen in French and math. I'm also a teacher's assistant at MathPlus: a math enrichment program for students in grades K-12 who I tutor every Saturday and Sunday.
