ATTRIBUTES
Academics
I am taking three AP Classes this year, and I took three honors classes last year.
In ACT-SO (Academic, Cultural, Technical, and Scientific Olympics), I refine and develop my research skills. I have won bronze and gold at Regionals for a Computer Science project an Engineering project, respectively. This year, I am working on an Earth and Space Science Project.
In WYSE (World Youth in Science and Engineering), students take tests to demonstrate understanding in various fields. Last year, I won Gold in Physics and Silver in Mathematics at Regionals.
Last summer, I took Introduction to Engineering and Design course at Illinois Institute of Technology. This course served as a microcosm of the real world, for it had specific problems, specific parameters, and a competitive atmosphere.
Community Service
I volunteer at local blood drives, helping set up the tables and chairs for the blood drive, providing sustenance to blood donors, and dismantling and putting away the tables and chairs. I also serve at local electronic recycling drives by carrying and sorting electronics for recycling. Over 75 cars come through each recycling drive.
I am the Vice President of the Teen-Train Ambassador of Teen-Train, a professional development organization dedicated to empowering teenagers in the Chicagoland Area through enrichment and training. I help at programs and conferences and serve as advisor to the executive director. I led the initiative for drafting, developing, and ratifying the first constitution for the Teen-Train Ambassador Team.
Athletics
The 1600 meter run and 5000 meter run are my main events, and my records in those events are 4:59.86 and 18:08, respectively. I was the captain of my Track Team in my Junior Year and have been on varsity for all my years. This year, since my school does not offer Cross Country, I ran the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Half-Marathon and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, hoping to build endurance and push my mental boundaries, and I can proudly say that I accomplished those goals. I hope to use these new strengths to push forward in my athletic progress, towards and past a 4:30 mile and a 16:00 5k.
