Academics
There has never been anything less than a 4.0 on any of my report cards. I have achieved expemplary on almost every one of my State Assessment, and I have been awarded PHS Student of the Month multiple times. I strive for perfection, even with my multiple commitments, such as volleyball, golf, and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). I also played basketball for three years and took part in scholars’ bowl for two. Last year I was elected Pep Club Vice President by my peers, and I currnetly hold the title of Pep Club President. I serve as Student Council Secretary. I am the President of our NHS chapter, and also the editor of our school’s yearbook. With all of these positions comes major responsibility and very little free time, but I have never let my grades faulter.
Arts
At the age of six, my mother insisted I begin piano lessons, and I’ve been playing ever since. My sophomore year, I went to State Piano Festival and recieved a II rating. School has influenced the hobbies and activities that I enjoy. In grade school, I found my love for art. In the years since, I’ve come to the conclusion that my head is clearer with a paintbrush in my hand. I have been awarded at the Fort Hays State art show for the past three years, and I have recieved awards at our league art show as well. Last year, I my art was published in Celebrating Art. Thanks to high school journalism, I have also taken an interest in photography. I love capturing moments in time; each snapshot holds a little memory that lasts forever.
Work
At the age of 12, I was asked to volunteer to teach Red Cross swimming lessons. Knowing how to swim is extremely important to me, so teaching young children how to swim came naturally. After a few years, of volunteering, I started getting paid to do what I loved. I have continued this job every summer since, with the addition of teaching private lessons. After completing a lifeguard training course at the age of 15; I wanted to be at the pool all day every day, so the following summer I got a job at the public pool and a second job at the country club pool; I worked almost every day that summer, and I loved every minute of it. I continue with these jobs during my summers, and I was even recently offered a future manager’s position.
