Athletics
Throughout high school, my most important lesson came from my involvement in a top ranked cross country team. I joined as a freshman with only middle school/weekend runs as past running experience. At our first practice we ran 3 miles fast-paced run up hilly roads to the local trails. Afterwards, I felt truly accomplished for the first time in my life. From there, I found myself wanting to be pushed and pushing myself to get better. My sophomore, junior, and senior year I made the varsity team. Running at that level is something few others will ever experience. Cross country taught me to keep pushing myself towards my goals, even if it seems impossible. I have been awarded Senior Pick, Most Inspirational, and have been a Frosh/Soph and JV top 5 All-League finisher. My best 3 mile is 20:25.
Community Service
I am a co-founder of a non-profit organization called NEIGH: Needy Equines In Good Hands. We put up bins and flyers in horse barns throughout the Bay area asking for donations of used horse supplies. We then bring the donations to various horse rescue barns in Northern California, like the Horse Plus Humane Society. So far we have donated thousands of dollars worth of supplies to these little-publicized and minimally funded rescue barns. Building NEIGH helped me see ways in which I can leverage my initiative to create solutions. In addition, I travel with my church to volunteer at Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos Orphanage in Guatemala during the summer to build relationships the children and people living there. I also volunteer at Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation on weekends.
Academics
Though I am busy with cross country and volunteering, I keep my academics as one of my top priorities. I attend a competitive public high school in Northern California. I have a 4.08 weighted and 3.87 unweighted cumulative 4-year GPA. I scored a superscore of 2050 on my SAT and have a 32 ACT composite score. I have been on Honor Roll all four years and I am an active Member of the California Scholarship Federation. My favorite classes are AP Calculus and AP Statistics. My love of science and math has led me to take a total of 3 AP courses and 4 honors courses in these areas. I hope to one day use this passion for science and math to become a Physician or Engineer.
