ATTRIBUTES
Green
I am very passionate about the environment. I love our planet, and everything about it. This past summer, I attended the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment, which is a program that aims at helping teens who care about the environment find more ways to save it. I learned so much about ways to help save the environment, even if they are just small things I can do around my house. My friend and I started a recycling club when we were in the seventh grade, which was six years ago. This club is still going strong today, as it is responsible for managing the recycling club at the middle school in my town.
Community Service
I am a firm believer in giving back to your community. I believe that to be a member of a community means you should also give back. I have done numerous community service projects throughout my high school career. I have volunteered at a nursing home, volunteered at the local dog shelter, as well as tutor students in my high school. I have walked in the Alzheimer's walk this past September, as well as walk in the Relay for Life, a walk that raises money for cancer research. As part of the National Honor Society at my school, we complete 25 hours a year, both individual and group service hours. Over the past two years, I have completed nearly fifty hours for the National Honor Society, as well as the over thirty hours I have completed for school.
Athletics
I have been riding horses for almost ten years. Six years ago, my barn made an Interscholastic Equestrian Association team, which is where we compete in horse shows, using the host barn's horses. This form of competition really tests your horsemanship rather than the ability of your horse, which is what I like about it the most. It also gives you the opportunity to compete at a team level, which is not typically done in the equestrian world. Our team has qualified for regionals all six years, and I have individually qualified four of those years. I am also a volleyball player at my high school. I was on the varsity team for two years, one of which our team made it all the way to the district finals.
