Academics
I began taking college level classes online and through ICN classes from both Iowa Central Community College and NICC when I was a sophomore - these classes were classes that were typically taken by seniors. I currently am enrolled in four college level classes: College Algebra, College Composition, Psychology of Human Relations, and Health Professions. I scored a 28 on my ACT composite score with a 35 on the science section. I have been on at least the B honor roll every year since I was a freshman. I've participated in spelling bees and moved on to the district competition and have been asked to join the Academic Decathlon team.
Athletics
As a freshman, I made it as an alternate to state in track. I continued to run and even though I had some bad days I still worked hard. As a junior I was less than a second away from going to state in the 400 hurdles and I also set a personal record in the 800 with a 2:35. I have participated in several 5k runs throughout the summer, one of which was for suicide prevention. My goal is to run a full marathon, hopefully this summer. I also ran cross country through my high school career. I vastly improved since I was a freshman and finished my senior year with a personal record of 16:26. This year, I decided to join the dance team at my school. We chose not to go to state this year but dance at as many sporting events as possible so the community has a chance to enjoy our dancing.
Work
I began taking the Certified Nurses Aide class at the beginning of my junior year of high school. At the end of September I decided to apply for a job at the Good Samaritan Society. I was offered the job and started in November. I have now been there for over a ear working as a CNA and I love every second of it. Working with residents makes me feel like I am making a difference in somebody's life. They always tell me stories about their childhood. To a lot of the residents, I'm known as "the smiley one," because I always try to have a smile on my face to make their day better. In February of last year, I applied for a job at another branch of the Good Samaritan Society so I could pick up more hours. I received an offer to work there also and have now been working there for almost a year.
