I have attended Boston Latin School since the seventh grade. It is a very challenging school, with a rigorous course load.Due to this, I have taken full advantage of the courses offered to me. I chose to take not only four years of latin, but of chinese as well. I am interested in the sciences, and have taken multiple science classes both at school and at MIT on the weekends. I have also taken 5 AP courses total, which include music theory, biology, U.S. history, literature, and environment. I have thrived at Boston Latin, maintaining a GPA over 3.2, without the availability of GPA bumps due to honors courses (this is because every course offered at BLS is considered an honors course, so there is no credit for taking them).
Green
I am a core member of my school's environmental club. While this sounds simple, it is really a huge responsibility, as the club runs more on the level of a small to medium sized nonprofit. We do everything from implementing a recycling pilot at our school that was then installed at 50 Boston Public Schools due to our success, to hosting an annual climate change summit at MIT for students an educators, to planning a large scale green roof with features such as greenhouses, wind turbines, indoor and outdoor classrooms, and so much more (I have even met with the Mayor of Boston to work on this project!). We have become well known throughout our school and community, as every initiative we run is meant to be shared with others and be completely replicable.
Arts
I am a part of two bands at my school. first, I play clarinet in the Symphonic Band, which is an audition band that takes the place of my study hall periods. This is my second year in Symphonic Band, and before that I was in Junior Band (as a freshman and sophomore), honing my clarinet skills. Secondly, I am an officer in the BLS Football Pep Band, where I play the tenor saxophone. I hold the office of music librarian, which entails ordering music, organizing music, creating music folders for each player, and making sure everyone has their music. Lastly, I am part of an AP Music Theory course at school, and enjoy teaching myself new instruments (such as the trumpet, piano, and flute), as well as composing music as a recreational activity.
