Academics
I am number one in my class and should graduate as the Valedictorian. I have been on the "A" honor roll all four years, and I am member of the National Honor Society, holding the position of treasurer. I am currently taking a college trigonometry class and have a 95 average going into the final. I made an "A" in a college computer class last year. I will take pre-calculus and psychology college courses this Spring. I received over 30 academic awards at my school including teen of the month, Junior who's who, & 2012 Scholar athlete. I won 4th place in a prose reading competition in a state-wide academic meet last year. I also made it to the final rounds in Bible improv and poetry reading at the academic meet.
Community Service
I am the founder and organizer of the Prom Queen Style Show. This is a charity event that provided beautiful new or slightly used prom dresses to 150 underprivileged girls. The show also included many other aspects designed to make the girls feel special. Work on next year's show is underway. It will become an annual event. I received a prestigious local award from the Lubbock Volunteer Center, The Get Involved Award, for my show. I have been on seven mission trips. The last trip was to India to work with girls that have been rescued from sex trafficking. I created and ran a bingo fundraiser to raise money for the girls and for my trip. I also worked an extra job to make the money to go on the trip. I have been to Kenya five times and work with AIDs orphans and school children there.
Work
I have held three jobs during my high school career. This has been difficult due to the amount of time that I put into school and community service, but my family and I feel that work is important. It teaches you so many good values. For one thing, I truly understand and appreciate the value of money more when I am earning money for some of my needs. I worked to get certified to lifeguard and worked at a water park for three summers. This work is more dangerous than traditional lifeguarding and requires on-going training. I worked as a waitress at Souper Salad to raise money to go on the mission trip to India. I am now employed by the Jetts, a club volleyball organization. I am the assistant coach for the twelve-year-old team.
