ATTRIBUTES
Athletics
I started playing North Platte Legion Baseball on the junior team in 2009 and now play with the seniors as a starting shortstop and pitcher. In June of 2010 I was the youngest player on the team, and won the Mike Bell award. The award is voted on by your teammates and is based on good sportsmanship, leadership, and dedication to the game. A year later, I would become the first player in North Platte Legion history to win the award twice in a row. After the season, I was selected to play for TEAM Nebraska at a regional tournament in St Louis, Missouri. This tournament is the first round in the selection process for TEAM USA.
This fall, I started as a wide receiver for NPHS varsity football where I received a varsity letter and a GNAC All-conference academic award.
Community Service
As a student council member at NPHS, our philanthropy is the canned food drive where we compete among classes for donations for local food pantries. I work as a delivery driver for Swan’s Furniture and arranged to have Swan’s be a drop-off location for the community along with using the delivery truck to deliver donations. I sent out press releases and was interviewed by local newspaper and T.V. With collected food and monetary donations, the senior class met their goal and 11% of the goal came from donations collected at Swan’s. As a school, we brought in the highest number of donations in the 25 years of the food drive.
Other service includes serving as a Eucharistic minister, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, and volunteering for Little League and Legion baseball camps.
Other Achievements
In addition to leadership in sports and student council, I was also selected by our high school principal to be part of a 16 member group of our high school’s Sportsmanship Leadership Council my junior year. We attended a sports leadership day in Chadron, Nebraska and continue to meet as a group weekly to plan themes for varsity games and encourage positive sportsmanship for the student body. Themes have included Pink-Out for Breast cancer and NP under construction.
Academically, I carry a 3.78 GPA, have a 26 on my ACT, and will finish high school with 12 college credits.
I was nominated for Homecoming candidate and was chosen by the cheerleaders to compete in the “Mr. Homecoming” contest. I have also coached Powder Puff Football, intramural basketball, and co-ed softball.
