Academics
I scored a 2400 on the SAT, as well as an 800 on the SATII for Chemistry and an 800 on the SATII for Math 2. I scored a 35 on the ACT. I have been named a National Merit Semifinalist as of this month. Last year I took 5 AP courses and scored a 5 on every exam, and as a result I was designated an AP Scholar with Distinction. This year I am also enrolled in 5 AP classes. I received a Certificat d'Honneur on the National French Exam in ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades. I received a merit scholarship to my high school. I have been on the first honor roll for every semester since beginning high school. Though my school doesn't rank, I receive a Book Award every year, meaning I am consistently in the top 10% of the class. My freshman year, I won an award for having the highest GPA in my class.
Community Service
Most recently, I have volunteered at a Saturday respite care program for kids with disabilities and their siblings, and as a tutor with the organization Reading Partners, which pairs tutors with students who are 1-2 grade levels behind in reading. The girl whom I tutored twice a week in reading improved her reading by 2.55 grade levels after a year in the program. During my junior year, I initiated and coordinated a blood drive at my school. The summer before my junior year, I volunteered at a sleep-away camp for kids with special health needs. The summers before my freshman and sophomore years, I volunteered at county day camps integrating kids with autism into mainstream camps, and as a general counselor at a camp designed specifically for kids with developmental disabilities.
Athletics
My favorite sport is volleyball. I began playing in a recreational league in eighth grade, then made the junior varsity team as a freshman. I won the Coaches Award that year. As a sophomore, I made the varsity team, then played for a club team in the off-season. I played on varsity again junior year and now as a senior. I also played basketball as a freshman and ran track both freshman and sophomore year. I run road races for causes I care about. Last year I ran the Best Buddies International 5k, and most summers I run the Autism Speaks 5k on the Fourth of July.
