ATTRIBUTES
Government
I sincerely believe that today's youth is genuinely apathetic towards their government. So, to raise awareness about political issues among my peers, I joined Junior State of America. This club is for those who are interested in politics, government, foreign affairs, the law and education. In JSA, I was elected to be the assembly officer, which means that I represent my chapter at fall and spring conventions. Furthermore, I hold an officer position at each club I am involved in. If I see that there is something wrong with my surroundings, I stand up and fight for what I think is right. For example, I saw that coal power plants are a big contribution to the pollution, so I worked with beyond the coal campaign to better the living conditions in my community.
Academics
Academics is one of the most important aspects of my life. Since middle school, I have been on the honor roll for five years. I am an active member in the California Scholarship Federation. In addition, I am part of the science bowl team at my school, which is a team that competes in all types of fields in science and math. I was enrolled in 2 AP classes and 3 honor classes during my sophomore year and this year, I am enrolled in 5 AP and 1 honors class. I have also participated in a biology research lab over the summer, where I bar coded several species of fish and worked with actual scientists. I am also involved in Med-Cor at USC, where I focus on improving medical conditions in the community. I was nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership forum in Washington DC.
Community Service
Being in the junior year, I have amassed over 400 hours of community service at a hospital. At the hospital, I have volunteered at the information desk, the emergency department, and as a care ambassador. I have also volunteered at the local library by shelving books and helping visitors locate books. I am also a treasurer and recycling officer at the heart of nature club at my school. At this club, I have accumulated 39 hours of volunteering in my community by focusing on the environment. So, i recycle classrooms throughout the school. I tutor sophomores and my peers in SAT Critical Reading each week. I was also accepted in the National Honor Society at my school.
